Year 4 is the ideal time to set out the foundations prior to the 11plus exams. There is a distinct difference in the academic levels of the children who started in year 4 compared to who started later in year 5.
Our Year 4 11+ course focuses on Maths, English, Verbal reasoning and Non-verbal reasoning.
Maths - The topics are developed in-line with the national curriculum which includes basic core functions, mental arithmetic as well as topics such as measurement, fractions, decimals and word problems.
English - The lessons are focused on key technical skills in spellings, sentence structure, punctuation and grammar which are vital to any piece of writing. Also, children learn key techniques in how to read a passage carefully and evaluate it.
Verbal and Non- Verbal reasoning - A wide range of VR and NVR question types will be introduced in year 4. Moreover, it will be in a form of puzzles of all types such as – crosswords, word searches, etc.
Homework - Regular weekly homework will be given to the students to monitor progress and it allows children to consolidate the skills and knowledge that they have learned, as independent learners, at home.
Overall, this foundation level 11+ course promotes and solidifies core skills in numeracy, literacy, vocabulary and reading comprehension, so that students can have a solid foundation prior to the entry to year 5.
The session will be 60 minutes.
Each class has maximum of 6 students.
The sessions takes place every week evenings and Saturday mornings.

We prepare the children for both Medway 11+ and Kent 11+ Tests.
Year 5 is clearly the most important year for the preparation of 11 plus. In this year the students will learn and familiarise themselves with the 11+ questions types and the key exam techniques including timed test practices in all aspects of the test components.
Subjects rotate weekly between Writing, Maths, Verbal reasoning, comprehension and Non Verbal reasoning.
Maths - The worksheets are developed in line with the national curriculum which also covers 11+ topics such as probability, ratio, basic algebra and problem solving questions.
English - The students explore varying styles of creative writing such as story, play-script, letters, news report, debate and reviews etc. Also, significant attention is placed on enhancing children’s key technical skills within the areas of spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension - The lessons are based on key techniques involves in VR and familiarise with the question types. Also, a methodical approach to analysing a passage will be taught which includes exam tips and tricks.
Non-Verbal Reasoning - This lesson develop methods for spotting subtle differences and patterns when analysing shapes and images. Within this discipline, children learn about spatial awareness, rotation, numerical sequences, coding, nets of cubes and analogies.
Homework - Regular weekly homework will be given to the students to monitor progress and it allows children to consolidate the skills and knowledge that they have learned, as independent learners, at home.
The lesson will be 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The session takes place week evenings and Saturday mornings.
